Cast of Characters
If you are new to my writing, I thought I better give you a rundown of the lineup. If you are not new to my writing, first of all, God bless you for hanging in there, and second of all, some of the players have changed. I've been watching the 2019 World Series this week and last and I'm into the lingo so work with me. Plus, I'm still miffed over the utter disappointment of my supposed to be book 2 so I'm just combining them all to not make myself feel like a complete failure. Did anybody know lineup was one word until this very moment in time? I certainly didn't.
Unfortunately, as with any good lineup, things change. People get injured, throw out a shoulder, pull a hammy. They do some therapy, sit the bench a while and hopefully if everything pans out and they follow the doctor's orders, they get back in the game. Life doesn't always work out that way though does it. Unfortunately, in the real game of life, people leave. You write a book and it's awful and you have to write another one. I promise I'll let it go eventually, just probably not in this book. But in all seriousness, people die. Animals die. People move in, people move out, babies are born and sometimes they aren't. We make new friends and we lose old ones. This crazy world just keeps on spinning whether we are on it, in it, or not. I'd love to think everything would just stop, including the earth on its very axis if I wasn't here but life simply doesn't work that way. I'm completely convinced that K&T Cattle Company would slow down for a while without the Boss Lady but like I've said before, my so-called friends would be lined up to the road with piping hot casseroles before my dead body was cold and The Cowboy would be re-married in about three days. They say the more happily married they were, the faster they remarry. Heck, he may bring his new wife to my funeral. I hope she dresses me in a cute outfit and remembers to change my clothes between the viewing and the funeral. And I hope the heifer is too big to wear my clothes.
The Cowboy's Wife - Me, Trish Charleston. Wife, Mother, Daughter, Granddaughter, former Paralegal, Co-Owner and Ranch Manager at K&T Cattle Company, Sunday School Teacher now Wednesday Night Youth leader, gardener, cook, chauffeur, babysitter, cheerleader, errand runner, decorator, author, humorist, blogger, shopper, trucker, bull hauler, bull feeder, equine sanitation technologist, bookkeeper, accountant, housekeeper, Owner and maid service of the Hitching Post and The Bunkhouse, Air B&B's, chicken whisperer, dog taker outer, and the list goes on and on.
The Cowboy - Kevin, my smoking hot husband. Owner of Specialty Risk Insurance, K&T Cattle Company, designer of a business app and owner of a couple of Air B&B's. Can ride anything, drive anything, fix anything, do anything, think of anything. My superman.
Quincy - Our beautiful oldest daughter. Now employed at Specialty Risk Insurance and is also the high school pitching coach. Former D1 Texas State Pitcher and as referred to by the rest of the family, "the golden child." I usually refer to her as Q or the tall girl. She's 5'11, about 6'4 in heels. She played basketball and softball in high school and was in various clubs. She rodeoed in her younger years but hasn't come back to it. She went to college at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in her first two years where she was named an All American for her pitching and was an all-around utility player until that time. She has always been on the All Academics Team lists and we are most proud of that. She has an old soul and loves Jesus. You will not find a kinder soul than this young woman. She was married this summer to a wonderful young man, who is just as kind, and they also coach a 14U girls' fastpitch traveling team.
Emma - Our beautiful youngest daughter. A/K/A The tiny. She's 5'3 on a good day. She is currently attending Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, the cowboy capital of the world on a rodeo scholarship. She ropes, run barrels and is also a really good student. Emma is feisty and mighty despite her tiny stature. She has rodeoed since she could sit up and played point guard on the basketball team in high school. She was in various clubs and very active in nursing and FFA. She loves Jesus, her family, and her boyfriend J.T. She plans to get a degree in Ag Business and hopefully sell some insurance for her dad. Emma is one of the kindest, funniest people on this planet with a heart of gold.
Colt - Quincy's husband. Former D1 baseball player and coach. The sweetest boy ever. He is Quincy in the form of a boy and they were absolutely made for each other, fully orchestrated and designed by God. He is also working at Specialty Risk Insurance in our Joplin, MO location.
J.T. - Emma's boyfriend. This is all he gets until they are married. LOL!
Jennifer - My editor, best friend, agent...my bitch. Only because I pay her to be.
Arnold - Our one and only full time hired hand at K&T Cattle Company. I couldn't have written a word of this book without Arnold here doing my chores for me.
The bulls - too many to name and hopefully they don't stay long enough to get named. Occasionally they are standouts that must be named. Ferdinand, Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John were all here earlier in the year.
The heifers and cows - They are numbered. That's it. No names. Occasionally I name them cuss words during calving season but that's it.
The calves - Numbered and tend to die on my watch. I hate the calves. They are precious but I hate them.
Waylon - Emma's good barrel horse, currently the B Team.
Superman - What used to be Emma's back up horse, now her number one boy. I mean, he's superman for heaven's sake. What do you expect?
Dude - Emma's number 1 rope horse. The best rope horse in the whole wide world.
Madison, a/k/a Madie, Madi, Maddy - because we cannot agree on a spelling. Emma's back up rope horse.
Rally - Emma's other back up rope horse who is a girl, nasty good but mean at the devil. She's gonna be great someday.
Paisley - Emma's good barrel prospect.
Wildfire - Our stud-horse and barrel prospect.
L.D. - The Cowboy's rope horse and the oldest man on the ranch. He can do it all. If I ever have time to ride, I ride him. He's really smooth unless a trash bag blows by.
Newt - Good old rope horse but is always injured. If there is a snake on 100 acres, he will find it and get bitten by it.
Sam - Old stud horse. Currently breeding mares at a camp for troubled teens.
Jax, Lefty, Spongebob - our horses. Mostly rope horses.
Mouse, Cash, Salina, Bee, Alice, Flashy - our broodmares.
Sami, Virginia, and Janey - our new baby colts.
Max - My newest Jack Russell puppy. Maxwell Smart, Maximus, Maxi Pad, Maximus Jackson Russell Charleston. He's the funniest, smartest and cutest puppy ever.
Bubbles - My beautiful blue heeler, female.
Buster - Our old Catahoula male.
Angus - The Cowboy's Christmas puppy last year. He's a frenchahoula. He was one of a kind until I started posting pics and a trend began. He's the sweetest boy ever.
Foghorn Leghorn - my rooster.
Lupe - My goat.
Pistol Pete - My pony. He will be famous someday, hopefully soon.
Father Steve and Father Joe - Our priests. I need two full time, feverishly praying for me without ceasing, 24/7.
Grace Episcopal Church - Our church.
The Episcopad - The youth group house where I teach.
B.S. - Bible Study - our group is called the Slightly Soiled Saints, of which I am the captain and more slightly more soiled than the rest of the team.
Do you sense that I love my children, my family, my animals, and my church? I do, very much.
The Feedtruck - a/k/a the pontoon. It's blue. The Cowboy and the dealer claim it's green. Apparently I'm color blind and I was an art major for a time.
My Mom, sister, extended family, and friends will be named throughout the book and no names will be changed for privacy purposes. Nobody is safe.
