The Lion King.

If you haven't seen the new Lion King, quit reading this blog,  grab a kid and go right now.   Make sure you know the kid so no prison time is involved.   And, if you grab a kid, for crying out loud bring him back.  And if you are watching Yellowstone, don't leave one boot laying in the pasture to make us think he's been murdered.  Kidnapped, we can deal with.  We have a shot of getting him back.  Murdered.  Well let the killing begin.  You just don't mess with our babies.

But back to the Lion King...You may not even need a kid because the new one is not a cartoon,  although the animals do talk.   Nobody will make fun of you though I promise!   It is really fabulous.  It's almost the same as the cartoon but they've added some really funny lines, or maybe they didn't.   It's been like 20 years since I've seen the other one so maybe I just don't remember the first one being so funny,  but just trust me, you'll love it.

I took two of my nephews and Emma for a last day of summer fun day and this was on the agenda.  The music, the animals, the scenery, it's all just beautiful.  As I was soaking it all in, the scene came on where Scar is telling Simba about the boneyard.  I've seen this cartoon a hundred times and never once did this ever register with me before that this was the exact depiction of the snake with Eve in the Garden of Eden.  I had chills all over my body.  I leaned over to Emma and whispered "Does this remind you of anything?"  His voice is kind of terrifying anyway.  I assume the serpent sounded just like Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar in the garden too.  Poor Eve.  I'd have peed down my leg if I was Eve.  Maybe she did.

But Scar is Simba's uncle so Simba didn't know to be afraid.  He'd never hurt him right?  His father told him to never go there.  It was forbidden.  They were only to be where all the light touches.  But Scar made it sound so appealing.  Like it was the place to be.   His own uncle wouldn't lie to him right?

They were only to be where the light touched.  Well just think about that for a minute.  Who is light?  It's mentioned about 100 times or more in the Bible.  Jesus is the light.  The lion cubs literally did exactly what the father told them NOT to do.  Just like Adam and Eve.  Well guess what happened?  The devil showed up.  Yes indeed.  Guess who saved them?  The father.  Mufasa arrives, just in the nick of time, that time, and the next time, just like father's do for their children.  I'm banking on Casey saving Tate.  And grandpa John saving Casey.  ;)

Watch the new movie and think about everything you know about the Bible.  Everything you know about good and evil, life and death, and the circle of life.  I was mesmerized by the similarities of the stories.  I may just be completely crazy and this was not Disney's intention at all, but sorry Walt, ya'll stole that story.

One of the funniest lines of the movies is Timon and Pumba talking and Timon says something about "They will never frolic together."  It was really matter of fact and appropriately placed where it was hilarious if you caught it.   I'm going to have to go watch it again just to learn the exact line.  From now on, every time the Cowboy and I do ANYTHING together, I am going to refer to it as "frolicking".  I love it and Emma and I laughed and laughed.

We had a laugh and then the movie got serious again.  Evil has taken over the land and the good has to rise.  The light has to return.  Why do the always have to bring a kid into it?  Well that's what gets our attention isn't it?  The children.  Our children.  Any child.

Emma has been slowly packing her stuff to go back to school.   Tonight with more gusto since we leave early Saturday morning.  All this of course while she's making purses.  Did I tell you about Emma's little sweat shop?  Oh yes, right before the wedding, the tiny who has never sewn on a button, painted a picture or drawn a stick man, has just cut out and hand sewn about 4 gorgeous leather bags with no pattern whatsoever.  She's the Elton John of leather.  It's amazing.  Today we went shopping for more supplies in Springfield.  If anybody would have ever told me that this child would be creating purses one day I'd have laughed in their face.  But to watch her today in this shop was really magical.  She has an amazing gift that we didn't even know about that just one day out of the clear blue came bursting out in all of it's glory...and fringe.  Watching her little hands pick up the leather pieces and put them back, searching for the exact fox tail or elk skin, cow or goat hyde, well it was really a beautiful scene.  I just sat back and soaked it all in.  The man waiting on us could see the magic happening too.  An artist at work.  He was so kind to her and helped her with everything.  He asked "Do you have a wholesale card?"  She sadly sad "No."  And he immediately said "Well you do today."  Isn't it nice that there are still people like that in this world?  He didn't have to do that for her but he could see her creative little mind working and wanted to be a part of the journey.  It was wonderful.  He was the monkey in the movie.  The hope.

We also found her a sewing machine.  The man that sold it to us was absolutely precious too.  He helped her for a long time, teaching her how to thread the machine and re thread it.  Clean it, store it, etc. and gave her his number and said to call him with any questions.   She told him about her purses and he said "I bet one day I'm going to see you on The Facebook or The Instagram!!!  You're going to be famous!"  She just smiled that big beautiful Emma smile and he smiled right back at her, filling her dream with fuel and fire.  The light.

Grandma Virginia went with us today because accessories and shopping are her two favorite things.  She loves to sew and create things and she is thrilled beyond words that Emma has started this hobby.  She's given her fancy scissors, bobbins, needles, you name it.  She is in it to win it, and she wants a new purse really bad.  Hahahahaha!  Emma and Grandma finally have something in common and something to talk about!  Wahoooo!

Evil is all around us each and every day.  But there is still light.  I love days like today when I see people helping people.  When others see with love and build up and encourage the creativity in others instead of tearing them down.  One of the woman in the store today had on a bandana on her head.  She obviously had no hair and I assumed was going through chemotherapy.  This woman was nothing but a gigantic smile from the minute we walked in the door.  She could have easily been feeling horrible about her life and sad and nobody would have blamed her.  But today, she helped my daughter by simply doing her job and being happy and kind.  Why don't more people do that?  Just do your job and be kind?  Can you imagine the world if everyone smiled at work?  The light.

It's too bad Scar had to die in the movie.  Not really.  I just wish I could have his hyde.  I'm sure the tiny would make something beautiful out of all of that evil.  And as far as the kidnappers in Yellowstone, wow.  Get ready.  Mufasa is coming and he's wearing a cowboy hat. ;)

Be ready Facebook and Instagram.  #emmapurses coming soon!

Simba!! Oh never mind this is just Max.
